Design PRIMA Product Innovation Awards
Earlier this month saw Design PRIMA crown the winners of the very first Design PRIMA Product Design Awards.
With many innovative products to chose from, the judges David JW Cowler, Industrial Design Associate, BDP; Pranvera Vula Interior Designer, Associate Director, TP Bennett and Ellis Woodman, Executive Editor, Building Design had a tough choice to make to decide on an overall winner.
After studying each submitted entry, and careful deliberations, Staverton were announced as the winners for their CL bench – there new integrated power and technology bench.
The judges, David JW Cowler, Industrial Design Associate, BDP; Pranvera Vula Interior Designer, Associate Director, TP Bennett and Ellis Woodman, Executive Editor, Building Design commented on the winning design: “It was the holistic design resolution of the componentry contributing to the robustness and stylistic neutrality that appealed. The engineering and processes involved in the manufacture of the product were appropriate, economical and sustainable. As observed it was details such as the work top edge extrusion, services outlets, power provision, etc that provided clues to the effort and design rigor that set the product apart.”
Commenting on their win, Tony Cole, manufacturing and design director for Staverton and the originator of the CL bench said: “The judges acknowledged the CL bench’s attention to detail and quality engineering and celebrated its clever yet simple componentry. The CL bench was borne out of collaboration with The Cooperative Group, where we secured our first order for 2,800 work stations, and that was success in itself. Winning this award gives us invaluable third party endorsement and the recognition in support of CL’s launch to the wider market.
“By dealing with cabling and power in a creative manner we’ve designed a clever benching solution which ticks all the boxes for facilities managers, IT departments and most importantly, employees. This award is a real celebration of what we’ve achieved, not just in terms of the product itself, but also in flying the flag for UK manufacturing. We’re thrilled.”
The Staverton CL bench was designed specifically for The Co-operative Group’s new head office in Manchester and 2800 benches will be installed in July.
