  • It’s all in the name : what a Kohn!!!!! Tragic waste of money/resources/time/energy. No wonder the British public fail to empathise with Architecture generally!!!?? Utterly pretentious references to Joseph Conrad : more “Fart of Starck-ness” than “Heart of Darkness” : delivered by “Fartangel” no doubt!!!?? I’m sure the poor, homeless and displaced people in our dysfunctional consumerist society will REALLY appreciate the symbolism and narrative of this concept : NOT!!!

  • What the Hell? take the jatgon out of this and there's nothing!
these people know nothing about London . Joseph Conrad made a boat journey - So?????? Are we supposed to be impressed with that literary reference ? this is not America.
totally pointless video , of interest only to themselves, I wish I hadn't wasted my time watching it.

  • What a outpouring of negativity…. Obviously the run up to Christmas is too distressing for some. Whilst Mr Hodson may have a point that a project like this does not directly address the issues facing our ‘dysfunctional consumerist society’ it is a criticism that could be leveled most projects published in the BD.
It is the interesting to note that the vast (an genuinely expensive) shard in the background is infinitely more symptomatic of the stated architectural malaise than this temporary moment of uncanny joyfulness in the foreground.

  • I have no problem with the boat, it's the building underneath it that's the problem. The Queen Elizabeth Hall needs to be demolished or utterly transformed. It is an exceedingly oppressive space.

  • Abominable Snowman : Well git in your boat and float it! QEH has been under attack from mediocre facilities management and useless catering franchises ever since it was constructed. Get rid of the commercial crap and the original beauty emerges : if you are capable of receiving it????? Go list an iceberg of your choosing!!!

  • I'm surprised by the negativity and vitriol. I think this project is genuinely fresh, light-hearted and exciting. Well done.

Good luck finding the original beauty!

  • So now we have “uncanny joyfulness” : this gives off quasi religious overtones : micro ark etc etc AND "fresh and light-hearted”. Gee guys you sure do go for weighty syntax!!!!!

Abman : if you don’t get the QEH as one of the best examples of concrete brutalism you should distance yourself from architecture completely. English Heritage calling???? The whole concept took the best of Corbusier and ran with better technology/detailing! Unfortunately the “Fletton Folk” got hold of the profession for a couple of decades subsequently and built technically flawed concrete structures faced in brickwork using the premise that brick was “a friendlier material” : phooey!!!!

  • Abman : checked out the site you suggested!!! Terrible photographer who witters on about his work in the most infantile language. Why would you photograph ANY building on a grey, overcast and wet day?
