Designhive's cheeky solution to the problem of MPs' second homes
A government funded apartment block could save the taxpayer a fortune
Visualisation company Designhive has come up with a proposal to build a giant tower on Parliament Square - complete with heli-pad - to house all MPs and remove the need for them to maintain two homes.
Do MPs deserve quality design or is a giant stack of boxes - of the kind often approved for new-build - good enough?
Of course, it’ll never happen: aside from the obvious sightline and heritage issues this doesn’t look like the kind of scheme that would win over the notoriously challenging Westminster planning committee. Designhive said the proposal was ‘tongue-in-cheek’.
