Scheme part of wider £200m revamp at city university

Plans by Hawkins Brown for a £75 million arts building at Leeds Beckett university have been submitted to the city council.

The 14,500sq m scheme is set to become the new home of the Northern Film School, Music, Performing Arts and Fashion.

It will bring together 1,850 students and staff currently spread across the city under one roof. It will include a 186 seat theatre, an 84 seat studio theatre and 216 seat cinema, along with recording studios, TV studio and film studios.

The building is part of a wider £200 million spend the university is planning over the next five years to upgrade facilities.

The university is masterminding the scheme along with its development partner, Liverpool firm Downing Developments.

Work on the city centre site is set to start at the end of the year with completion due in 2020.
